Sarah Moule & Simon Wallace - Songs for Scarlet Women
From 13 Feb 25 7:30 PM to 13 Feb 25 10:00 PM
A sophisticated ‘Jazz Cabaret’ celebrating the femme fatale as heroine & heartbreaker, the show combines songs and stories about dangerous women who pushed the boundaries of acceptable female behaviour to the limit.
From Eve in the Garden of Eden to the Film Noir goddesses via Cleopatra and Mata Hari, the tales of these rule breakers are highlighted by Sarah Moule as she retells these stories in song from a women’s 21st Century point of view.
“Songs For Scarlet Women is funny, moving and provocative …. first rate musicality …..” Chris Ingham – Bury St Edmonds Festival.
This upbeat 90 minute show in two parts is structured around songs by the much lauded pianist Simon Wallace and the late great jazz lyricist Fran Landesman whose lyrics are the last link with the Golden Age of American song writing. The show also contains classic material by Landesman’s long-time friend and admirer, Stephen Sondheim and songs by Stoller and Cole Porter.
Numbers such as “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, (Cole Porter), “I’m A Woman” (Leiber & Stoller), “Sooner Or Later”, (Sondheim) and “I Need A Little Sugar In My Bowl”, (Bessie Smith) are superbly sung by Sarah Moule, “Long established as one of the best jazz singers in the country …..” Helen Mayhew – JazzFM.
Show 7.30pm (Doors 7.00pm) Tickets £15 (£13 for Chiswick Club Card holders) plus Eventbrite booking fee.
